There are a number of reasons why you might decide to buy a generator. It could be because you want to be able to access emergency power or you may need it for camping trips. However before you go out to buy a camping generator there are a number of things you need to know.
- The two main parts of a generator are the engine and the alternator and the size of these parts will determine how big your generator is, how much noise it makes and how much you are going to have to pay for it.
- There are two types of alternator known as a standard alternator and an inverter alternator. A standard alternator produces the alternate current electricity with the use of copper coils. If your camping generator uses a standard alternator it will probably be quite noisy as it will need a 3600 RPM motor to generate the power. You could find that this type of generator uses a lot of fuel. The inverter alternator will generate direct current electricity which will then be transformed to alternate current electricity. These alternators are lighter and more compact and usually use less fuel and are not as noisy.
- While inverter generators are smaller, lighter and less noisy than the standard generator, you do have to be aware that they will provide less power because of this. But when it comes to camping, the inverter generator will probably produce enough power for your requirements.
